The theme for the Education Issue in 2018 was 'Teachers under pressure'. We wanted to foreground how difficult it is to be a teacher in America today. The stories were wide-ranging, but what they all had in common was a sense of seriousness and urgency — and it was important to communicate that teachers all over the country have had enough. The design is inspired by the visual language of social protests from the past, and it uses a combination of five typefaces — all xeroxed a bunch of times. This issue was recognized by the Type Director's Club in 2019.
