Description

Cymatic patterns are formed when a surface is vibrated by sound. Each frequency causes a distinct pattern to emerge as the surface resonates. These designs allow us to see music.

Using existing technology, we created a digital integration on the Bang & Olufsen app that renders accurate cymatic patterns when listening to the resonant frequencies of a Bang & Olufsen product. We appealed to design and music lovers by combining their interests, and changed how they hear, see, and feel music.

We called our campaign The Art of Resonance.

We tapped into the emotion of music by asking users to share what resonated with them. The idea became a form of self expression as users shared the music and designs on social media from the Bang & Olufsen app.

To tap into pop culture, we made cymatic art of the most popular songs based on data from streaming platforms. We shared the art on Bang & Olufsen’s social feeds and tagged the artists. The idea spread organically as fans took notice and shared our posts. The link in our bio directed users to a Bang & Olufsen e-store.

For further reach, we partnered with music artists and utilized their visual displays at live shows to showcase The Art of Resonance. We leveraged the Beolab 50 as an incentive for concert goers to share content of performances.

We drove foot traffic to B&O stores by making prints of popular songs and offering them for sale in brick and mortar locations. These visual exhibitions of popular music helped B&O transcend pop culture.

The Art of Resonance captured a modern audience with bold design that changed how people experience, and express themselves through music. It drove traffic to B&O’s E-store and brick and mortar locations, and made them part of the cultural conversation once again.
