Description
Task
Have you ever wondered if there is gender equity in the design industry? As upcoming designers we were curious to know if the design bubble is as progressive as it seems. For this purpose we looked into the Austrian design industry, conducted interviews and analyzed studies. In doing so, we came across gender-specific problems and injustices. However, these are hidden in plain sight. We have made it our mission to unveil these issues.
Idea
The problems of women and other underrepresented designers are invisible. Our approach was to establish more visibility. Because invisible problems cannot be solved – they must first be made visible. In order to create a better understanding of this, our goal was to make the data tangible. Since most of these problems are everyday discriminations, we used everyday objects to make them visible.
Solution
IN*VISIBLE is an exhibition that targets the Austrian design industry and makes invisible problems of women and other underrepresented designers visible. Study results are made tangible, prejudices are shown and injustices are dealt with. Each exhibit tackles a gender-specific problem to show that we still face gender inequities in the design industry.
