Stellenbosch Academy of Design and Photography
Marike Spangenberg is an educator and illustrator from the beautiful winelands of South Africa with a MA in Visual Art (Illustration and Visual Storytelling). She currently teaches Illustration to final year students at Stellenbosch Academy of Design and Photography, as well as a course on critical thinking. She values the curiosity, experimentation and inventiveness of students, which in turn influences her personal work. As an illustrator, she works under the name, Marike le Roux, and have her work featured on 3x3's online magazine and Creative Quarterly 50's online gallery. In 2013 she received a nomination for the Best Children's Book from Edition Lidu Art Books Wanted, Prague. Her most recent exhibitions include an international group show, My Petit Bourgeois Revolution at Northern Contemporary Gallery, Toronto, and Tall Tales: An Illustration Exhibition at Stellenbosch Academy of Design and Photography that was organised and curated by herself and Rosalind Stockhall.
