Fresh out of design school, Jamila Varawal found her calling in teaching. It was in this pursuit of spreading design intelligence, she fell in love with enlightening inquisitive minds.
Jamila’s teaching journey commenced in 1981 with a 13-year stint at her alma mater, Sophia Polytechnic, Mumbai. Her passion for shaping design thinking then took her to Cambrian College, Canada where she worked as a department director, after which she moved to the University of Huddersfield, England. She has also had the distinction of officiating the University of Arts, London orientation process in Mumbai for three years. Currently, she is the dean of the famed French design school, école intuit.lab, Mumbai.
Jamila’s love for teaching is matched by her excitement for design and storytelling. A glimpse of which you will find in her PhD in Sequential Thinking in Visual Communication. She has also co-authored five children’s books with Tata Donnelly, and My Kite, a children’s book commissioned by the French embassy in India, in partnership with 11 French and Indian artists.
