Description
Fliks is a modern movie guide that tailors cinema info to the user based on the time and their locations. And it's fully responsive to boot!
Objective
Fliks is a cinema guide site (originally from New Zealand) that was ready for a fresh new start in the UK. They tasked us to create a modern version of the site for movies and cinemas UK-wide that would maximise the use of all of their existing data and assets.
We re-examined the UX and created a slick new look with increased functionality. The site is fully responsive and included integrated Fliks and Rotten Tomatoes ratings and reviews; as well as location- based recommendations — so that users could instantly find the nearest cinema showing the movie that they were viewing.
Technical Challenge
Fliks.co.uk started out as Flicks.co.nz, a one- stop movie guide based in New Zealand. Over the past nine years, they became one of the biggest movie guide sites in New Zealand and Australia, featuring everything from the latest movies, where to watch them in cinemas and movies on demand.
Naturally, growth came with its own set of problems. The site grew to house over 6,000 movie profiles with trailers and images and saw close to 800,000 unique users and 4 million page impressions per month across the two countries. New sections, features and ads were stacked
on top of the existing site, making each attempt at a redesign next to impossible. Their extensive content also meant that we could not change the image proportions or require them to recreate assets.
So when Fliks came to us, the brief was simple — bring Fliks to the UK, make use of the existing content and make it better.
