ABOUT THE EVENT:

This TDC Lettering Walk will mark a return to Brooklyn and a continuation of walk from 2018 that covered Prospect Park South, Flatbush and Ditmas Park. This time we will venture out further into the wilds of Brooklyn to Midwood, Bensonhurst and the smaller neighborhoods between them. These neighborhoods are very residential with parts of Midwood looking more like a quiet Midwestern town than part of New York City. Nevertheless, there are still enough commercial, educational, and religious buildings with examples of lettering to pique our interest and satisfy our craving for the unusual.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Paul Shaw has been leading urban lettering walks since 2005. Along with over 50 walks covering all of the five boroughs of New York, he has also conducted walks in thirteen other North American cities. Paul teaches the history of type at both the School of Visual arts and Parsons School of Design. With Patricia Childers he organizes the bi-annual Legacy of Letters tour and letterpress workshop in Italy.
