David Prince

Senior Strategist,
Y&R

David Prince was first introduced to the concept of “strategy” as a high school student when his older cousin made him read, Positioning: The Battle for Your Mind as part of a family book club. At that time, he had no idea he would become both a practicing Strategic Planner and teach the words of that same author-- Jack Trout.
His official career start was on a new business pitch for Blockbuster Video for what is now called Lowe Lintas + Partners. There, he worked on the launch of Splenda and Diet Coke.
David joined Warwick Baker O’Neill to focus on CPG advertising and attain more production experience. With Crunch & Munch and Bausch & Lomb eye drops as his main clients, his office was very popular during late evening strategy sessions.
Moving on to Publicis, David ramped up his new business experience. In the first year at the agency he was part of the team that won six out of seven pitches.
Eventually, David joined his first multicultural shop. Leading Strategic Planning, New Business and Client Services, he helped grow J. Curtis & Company from one Client to the third largest multicultural advertising agency in the country.
David then had the rare opportunity to open his own boutique shop. PFI: Marketing focused on the multicultural “tween” marketplace. With a multi-year contract with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the agency was successful at integrating digital and emerging social media activities with traditional media to reach a newly defined audience.
In 2008 David was tapped by the new CEO of the 4A’s to create the organization’s first advertising agency training practice. This practice was successful at bringing large agency training models to small and mid-size members of the 4A’s, by working with such venerable partners as GroupM, VCU, the Miami Ad School and the IAB.
Citing a lack of diversity in senior agency leadership, David left the 4A’s and rejoined the agency world as Group Director at McCann Worldwide. His focus was on strategic integration for the group of agencies on the U.S. Army account. This included both general and multicultural agency partners.
Rejoining the agency ranks has lead to many exciting and unique experiences including a stint leading the Verizon business for the famous (and now infamous) Commonground/MGS, as well as being tapped by the legendary multicultural agency brand UniWorld Group, to lead strategic duties on many of their blue chip Clients, including Colgate, Home Depot, Pfizer and US Marine Corps.
During this time he was also an Adjunct Professor of Advertising Strategy for the MCA Program at CCNY.
David is currently providing strategic leadership for Y&R New York, as a Senior Strategist on Office Depot, Dell Technologies and new business.
In his “down time” David enjoys cooking & baking, training for fitness competitions, writing fiction and comedy, and endulging his passion for educating the next generation whenever he can.

THANK YOU!

We want to thank everyone who made Here Are All The Black People 2018 happen! This year's event was an amazing success, with the biggest turnout of agencies and attendees to date.

Many feel that events like HAATBP pay lip service to the topic of diversity, but we are committed to creating actual change within our industry. This year, we supported diverse creative talent by providing $25,000 in travel stipends for students and recent graduates to attend. HAATBP is a space for talent to be found, developed and molded, and seeing students and creative professionals advance their careers is why we do what we do!

With your support, HAATBP's programming was taken to new heights in 2018. This year's event contained 30,000 square feet of opportunity, including portfolio reviews, recruiting tables, student/entry-level workshops, mid-level/industry professional sessions, two keynote speakers, and a closing reception sponsored by Facebook. Our exclusive HAATBP kick-off reception not only had a surprise performance, but also allowed mid-level and senior staff to network and discuss important topics that impact our industry.

We can honestly say that this year, HAATBP made its largest impact to date. Thank you, and we look forward to doing it all again next year!

Best Regards,
– The One I.D. Department, Art Directors Club and One Club for Creativity Teams!

ABOUT HAATBP

"Where are all the black people?"
-Jeff Goodby to Jimmy Smith

We've come a long way from the organic question posed by advertising greats Jeff Goodby and Jimmy Smith. The highly controversial and emotional discussion between the two creatives sparked a wave of action as a response to the very serious question regarding the lack of diversity in the creative field. Immediately, The One Club for Creativity seized the opportunity to move beyond words and created action. In 2012, The One Club developed a diversity-focused event entitled “Where Are All The Black People? A Creative Career Fair.”

A few short years later, the "W” from Where Are All The Black People was removed, changing the question to an emphatic statement. Now in its seventh year, HAATBP is a highly regarded event, giving young participants numerous opportunities to interact with top creative professionals for networking, interviews, portfolio reviews and mentoring, and those with more industry experience to develop professionally and help shape the diversity conversation from within.
