The Best Record Stores in the United States / Vinyl Me, Please
Submitted By Élise Rigollet
Layout design and art direction of a book collecting essays about the best record stores in the USA, out in Fall 2019. Commissioned and published by Vinyl Me, Please, a vinyl subscription service and music media. The book is available on their website and in selected music stores. I commissioned and art directed illustrator Clay Hickson for the illustrations in this project.
The book feature 50 record stores in the US, each accompanied by an essay by an author with a personal story with the store, whether it be a well known branch or a more niche shop. That makes for a fun twist on traditional guides of this kind. Its size (11" x 11") and square shape reference the vinyl covers, and it's weighty page count (224p) make it a interesting object to flip through.
I used two spot colors (a neon pink and a sky blue) in addition to the CMYK colors. The text on the cover is foiled, on yellow fabric.
