Prejudice / not have
Submitted By Yanlin Zhu
Description
The “prejudice” was inspired by the corset popular in medieval Europe. From ancient to modern times, the examination and evaluation of women’s bodies resulted from the aesthetics of homogeneity have given rise to exploitation for women, both physically and psychologically. Despite of the advancement of the times, such “abnormal aesthetics” still remains that the individual and even the whole society continue to pursue “beauty” from the control and bondage of self. However, it’s imperative to embrace diversity and accept our own bodies. Instead of pandering to the stereotyped conventions, we should break free and let our bodies define diversified “beauty”.
Objective
Integrated with this idea, the design presented in a sharp polyhedral shape expresses rebellion against the mainstream culture. Taking the diversity of female figures into account, this structure connected by organic glass has high tolerance level. The design adds the unique sense of space and utilizes the balance of materials through the holes to form a “non-tight-fitting corset” which can freely change according to the wearer’s figure.
Technical Challenge
The use of new materials and connections in clothing.
