2012 One Show Young Ones Competition Announces Winners

The 2012 One Show Young Ones Competition, one of the most acclaimed for students in Advertising, Interactive and Design around the world, announced the winners of its coveted Gold, Silver and Bronze Pencil and scholarship check awards on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at an awards ceremony held for students, creatives, educators and VIPs at Eyebeam in New York City. This year's competition received nearly 1,500 entries from 93 colleges, representing 14 countries worldwide.
A total of 26 Pencils were awarded: 5 Gold, 7 Silver, and 14 Bronze. Pencil-winners also receive scholarship checks.

"Top advertising programs from across the globe this year threw their hats into the ring. Not only did the 2012 Young Ones Competition receive a record-breaking number of entries, the quality of work was better than ever," said Tiffany Edwards, Education and Diversity Director at The One Club. "If these young students are an indication of creative advertising to come, the future of the industry looks incredibly bright!"
This year's Young Ones Competition also included a Client Pitch Competition, featuring three student briefs from two different clients: Stride Gum and PETA. While the Young Ones Competition is judged solely by creative excellence and idea, the Client Pitch Competition is judged by the participants' ability to create and articulate a focused strategy and the persuasiveness of the marketing pitch. Ten finalists were selected to present a 15-minute campaign pitch in front of a live panel of judges. The winners were students Michael Borrell, Alicia Reyerson, and Patrick Kispert from Minneapolis College of Art & Design for their Stride Gum "Truth or Dare" campaign.
Young Ones Competition participants were able to choose one or more of the competition subcategories including Integrated Branding Campaign, Non-Traditional Advertising, Print Campaign, Television, Online Ad, Facebook & Beyond, Package Design, Product Design, Website, Logo Design, and Corporate Identity Campaign. This year's judging panel included Andy Deaza/McCann, Corinna Falusi/Strawberry Frog, Marques Gartrell/TBWA/Chiat/Day, Stanley Lumax/Anomaly, Victor Newman/Bionic, Kim Nguyen/TBWA/Chiat/Day, Sabine Roehl/R/GA, Aurelio Saiz/draftfcb and Caprice Yu, BBH.

Launched in 2005, the One Show Young Ones Competition is produced annually by The One Club, the world's foremost nonprofit organization whose mission is to champion excellence in advertising, youth education and diversity in the field. The competition is open to students from colleges, graduate schools or portfolio schools who are enrolled in an accredited advertising or graphic design program at time of entry.
The One Club's Education Summit, Student Portfolio Reviews and Agency Tours complemented this year's One Show Young Ones Competition. The One Show is part of Creative Week NYC, a weeklong program of speakers, seminars, exhibitions, and special events.
Corporate sponsors of Creative Week are Adobe, Facebook, GE, Google, Microsoft Advertising and Pictela. One Show media partners are Best Ads, Bizcommunity, Campaign Brief, and Marketing Magazine Canada. Go Welsh was responsible for the graphic design of this year's Young Ones Competition, and Mullen created the interactive game Kill for a Pencil, released as a prelude to the One Show awards.
