Creative Boot Camp Documentary Launched for Black History Month

The One Club, producers of the prestigious One Show Awards, today announced the availability of Where Desire Meets Opportunity, a documentary that features the Creative Boot Camp – a series of workshops that introduces multicultural students to advertising. The documentary represents The One Club’s second effort this February to pay homage to Black History Month, following the release of its exhibition, “A History of African American Advertising,” a couple of weeks ago.

Where Desire Meets Opportunity follows the participants of the 2012 Creative Boot Camp’s Los Angeles and New York installments. The documentary captures the creative process students face, from concept through creation.

“The Creative Boot Camp is a trial-by-fire introduction to creative advertising,” said Mary Warlick, Executive Producer of Where Desire Meets Opportunity and CEO of The One Club. “Where Desire Meets Opportunity captures that process, including group brainstorming, mentorship, concepting and the pitch, in an inspiring short documentary.”

Winners of the Creative Book Camp earn coveted internships at sponsoring agencies and have gone on to become creative professionals at those agencies. The Creative Boot Camp series has taken place in a number of cities, including New York, Atlanta, San Francisco, Chicago, London and, just last week, Los Angeles for the third time. Upcoming boot camps include Chicago (March 20-23rd), Austin (April 24-27th) and London (June 12-15th).

The One Club has produced two other documentaries about the advertising industry: The Real Mad Men and Women of Madison Avenue (www.thirteen.org/programs/real-mad-men), which is nominated for a New York Emmy, and Art & Copy (www.artandcopyfilm.com), which received an Emmy on PBS Independent Lens for Outstanding Arts & Cultural Programming.
