What’s one piece of advice you wish someone had given you early in your career?

I remember when I was just starting out, I wanted so badly to create famous work that I could point to and say, “I made that!” But making that the only focus made me miserable. And after countless all nighters, a light bulb hit. I realized, honestly, I need to get over myself. Once I told my ego to shut up, everything got a million times better.

How do you recharge your creative battery when you're feeling burned out or uninspired?

This may sound silly, but don’t force yourself to get inspired. Sometimes, you just need to stare at your ceiling for a bit and rest your brain.

What’s your best hack for overcoming a creative block?

Make a mess. Write out all your bad ideas. Zone out and scribble. Let yourself be dumb.

How did your upbringing, family, or culture shape you as a creative?

Because I moved around when I was young, I never felt like I fully belonged anywhere. But now I love how that gives me a totally different and unique perspective than others.

What’s the most creatively inspiring part of living and working in New York City?

The best thing about New York is its randomness. Pop ups, posters, characters on trains. They’re all fun ingredients that you get to store in your subconscious until the perfect opportunity pops up one day.

Who would you thank in your Next Creative Leaders acceptance speech?

My parents, who still don’t quite get what I do to this day.
