One Club Member builds website to offer pro bono support for nonprofits

Calling all ambitious creatives and nonprofits who need some love! Devika Dalal One Club Member and Senior Art Director at Bokeh launched website Creativity for Kindness to support nonprofits who have been struggling. This great initiative connects creatives at all levels with specific projects for all different kinds of nonprofit organizations. This year has not been easy for anyone, so thank you Devika for reminding us all that kindness goes a long way.

We caught up with Devika to talk through how you too can be apart of Creativity for Kindness.

Creativity for Kindness is much needed right now. Kindness alone is much needed right now. What inspired this idea?

The idea has been blossoming in me for a little while now. Having lived and worked in a number of cities, including Mumbai, London, San Francisco, and New York, I've been exposed to various types of societal challenges facing different parts of the world. As an advertising creative, I appreciate the powerful impact of the work we do and I have always felt an urge to use my talents for good. Noticing that smaller nonprofits don't often have the resources for high-quality marketing and design, I recognized an opportunity where I could help.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I saw it exacerbate many existing world issues, as well as create new ones. Eager to provide support, I felt an urgency to launch Creativity for Kindness. The platform went live the first week of May and the response was overwhelmingly warm. In just two months we had over 80 creatives signed up from all over the world, with skills ranging from art direction, copywriting, and design to production, animation, and UX. Our clients too have been extremely grateful for the initiative. We currently have eight clients, also based all over the world, that we're actively working with to build new projects.

"In just two months we had over 80 creatives signed up from all over the world, with skills ranging from art direction, copywriting, and design to production, animation, and UX. "

How can people looking to volunteer their time and skills get involved with Creativity for Kindness?

Creativity for Kindness is open to creatives at all levels, from students to Creative Directors, with all kinds of skill sets. By signing up at on our website, creatives can be matched with nonprofit projects best fit for their skills. It gives creatives a chance to work on a side project that matters to them, while also growing their own portfolio.

"Creativity for Kindness is open to creatives at all levels, from students to Creative Directors, with all kinds of skill sets... and it is also open to all nonprofits who need any kind of marketing or design help."

How can nonprofits receive help from you?

Creativity for Kindness is also open to all nonprofits who need any kind of marketing or design help. We only support nonprofits who have zero budget for marketing talent, as we do not intend to take paying jobs away from people who need them. Nonprofits looking for help can submit their project request at here and will soon be connected with a creative who is the best fit for the project. Nonprofits can currently contact us for help with ad campaigns, social media, brand identity, website design, photography, graphic design, and more. We have a broad range of skills between all our talented creatives, and as our network continues to grow, it means our capabilities do too!

What kinds of projects have you completed for your nonprofit clients so far?

We're currently completing several brand identity projects and website designs for nonprofits. We're working with art directors, graphic designers, web designers, and copywriters to develop logos, visual identities, tone of voices, social media copy, and websites. Our nonprofits range from conservation organizations to mental health platforms, COVID-19 restaurant support, and career growth networks. You can check out some of our recently completed work here.

What are you hoping that creatives and clients will gain from this experience?

Creativity for Kindness was formed as a way of giving back to the community and promoting kindness in the industry. It's a way for creatives to create meaningful work and contribute to causes that matter to them, using their best talents. I hope that being a part of Creativity for Kindness will be a rewarding experience, and allow creatives to recognize the potential of their creativity. The aim is for our clients to gain access to top-quality creative expertise, receive creative support that truly makes an impact, and get one step closer to accomplishing their goals. I hope that our clients continue to come back to us for more projects and see us as a continuous resource.

Are you hoping to expand this project?

Creativity for Kindness has grown faster than I expected and I definitely hope to keep growing it. The aim is for it to be a permanent resource for nonprofits, and to keep increasing our client roster so we're able to support even more important issues. The more we expand our creative network the more projects we'll be able to take on, too. I would love to eventually grow beyond just creatives. It would be great to be able to allocate mini teams for every project, including account and strategy people. There's a lot of opportunity for growth with Creativity for Kindness, and I'm excited to see all the places it can go!
