One Club Member designs interactive website for satellite image company SkyFi

The heat is on. Spritz season is back. And if you're not one of the lucky ones having a Spritz in Capri this summer, then you'll just have to settle for scrolling the beautiful aerial photographs of Europeans sipping Spritzes on the beaches instead.

But what if we zoomed out of aerial mode for a bit to capture some satellite images of Capri? Well Guillermo Brotons, One Club Member, and Co-founder and Creative Director at Decimal Studios, would be able to help us out with that since he designed a stunning website for daily satellite image company SkyFi.

Guillermo filled us in on the creative, interactive and immersive web elements of SkyFi, and what he’s been up to over at Decimal.

How did Decimal Studios get involved in this project?

We were recommended by someone on the client side. Most of the work we get is through word of mouth.

How is this project unique from some of the others you have done?

It is different because we’ve never worked with the satellite data industry before. It’s very exciting because the images we can get through SkyFi’s product are stunning. It’s always a pleasure to work with beautiful content.

When you first landed this client, what were your initial thoughts about the web design elements?

The brand identity was created by Maven Creative. We really enjoyed it from the beginning. The monochromatic color palette is nicely contrasted with the vibrant colors of the Earth photography. Our job was to apply the existing brand identity on SkyFi’s marketing website.

A lot of the work we do is find opportunities to expand brand identities in the digital space. The biggest challenge was to explain what SkyFi is in a bold and interactive way. This is how we came up with the spinning globe homepage which essentially allows the users to explore some Earth photography taken by SkyFi.

What was something new you learned about satellite imagery while you were working with SkyFi?

We didn’t have any baseline knowledge about satellite photography so we learned so much about it during the project. We learned about the types of images, how satellites work, usages, pricing, and brand partnerships... It’s such an exciting and blooming industry.

In what ways did you use WebGL to build out the site?

We used WebGL to create a 3D immersive experience with the spinning globe and the image galleries. It made a huge difference to use this technology because it’s way more immersive than what you get with traditional web design. We didn’t use any AI, but we did connect WebGL with a CMS so we can add new locations on the Earth as we get fantastic new images from different places in the world.

What are you working on now at Decimal?

So many things! An e-commerce site for an LA-based fashion brand, a marketing video for a global luxury brand, some title credits for an HBO documentary, a designer portfolio, a digital marketplace for a tech company, an art museum site... and so much more. We love to work on different types of projects for different industries and mix it up.
