About the Work

BMW Films was a groundbreaking series of 8 short films released in 2001, starring Clive Owen as an enigmatic driver for hire who used a BMW for his thrilling exploits. One of the original examples of branded entertainment, they generated millions of views years before the invention of YouTube. To celebrate the film’s 15th anniversary and BMW’s 100th, our brief was to create one new film “The Escape” that lived up to the lofty standards of the originals, yet would attract a completely new generation of viewers, along with dramatically introducing the new BMW 5 Series. Since the original films, the rest of the world has caught up with BMW Films, consuming their entertainment largely through streaming. So the film was distributed primarily through a dedicated website and YouTube. In addition, the film was divided into four cliffhangers, which were screened during commercial breaks on America’s top-rated late-night talk show.
