About the Work
‘Looking Back’ is the story of the gold record—the cultural cargo—still onboard Voyager 2 as it continues on its decades-long mission of discovery beyond our solar system. A labor of love, Carl Sagan and his team tackled the daunting task of assembling, on one long-playing record, a representative history of culture on our planet. The process of distilling the experience of life on earth into a singular expression of a single person, is not unlike the process of writing. This insight is the premise for ‘Looking Back.’
