About the Work
The documentary 13th takes an in-depth look at the prison system in the United States and how it reveals the nation's history of racial inequality. The film is named for the constitutional amendment that abolished slavery with the exception of punishment for crime. Using a combination of animations, maps, statistics, lyrics, graphical design and stop-motion we crafted an organic narrative that connects the lineage of race and oppression through the American criminal justice system.
