About the Work

Every year, Spotify uses our data to celebrate the year that was. But how could we tackle a year like 2017? In a year that many wanted to tune out, we decided to celebrate how music gave us a reason to keep listening. A global OOH campaign transformed users’ listening data across the tumultuous year into 2018 Goals. Our 2017 Wrapped microsite gave Spotify listeners a way to relive their own year in music, and dared them to share the results. We paid tribute to the year’s #1 artist, Ed Sheeran, with a TV spot that introduced (and destroyed) his cookie doppelgänger, “The Ginger Ed Man.” And we commissioned The New York Times to “fact-check” the biggest songs of the year, asking the “tough” questions like: is it really possible that Miley Cyrus has never been on a boat?
