About the Work
Gender-based violence is a massive social issue. One that White Ribbon, the world’s largest movement of men and boys working to end violence against women and girls, combats by promoting a new vision of masculinity that values gender equity and healthy relationships. Masculinity is defined in narrow terms and social norms dictate that “real men” show little to no emotion. With no other resort, boys are forced to hide or suppress their feelings, which can have tragic consequences later in life. To provoke conversation and debate, we created a 3-minute film that ponders what boys are allowed to feel and what they aren’t. Highlighting how a lifetime of outdated social instructions can lead to the most toxic form of masculinity.
