About the Work
In Buddhism, flowers signify impermanence, a part of Samsara or the endless cycle of life. But while devotees bring these sacred flowers to temples in the thousands every day, they’re discarded almost immediately. JAT Paints collected and sorted these discarded flowers, combining ancient traditions and cutting-edge manufacturing technology to breathe new life into them, turning them into a special kind of liquid paint: Petal Paint. Each paint colour was inspired from the Buddha’s halo. Each label was designed to embody the artwork in temples in tribute to those who created them. Petal Paint was then donated to temples across Sri Lanka and used by painters to restore temple art across the country, helping preserve their heritage for eternity. People could also buy Petal Paint at JAT stores and use it to maintain their home shrines. Our next goal: to help the Petal Paint concept bloom in countries all over the world
