About the Work

The meaning found in gestures and facial expressions, and hidden within sayings and turns of phrase, can be challenging to interpret for children with autism spectrum disorder. The disorder robs them of their ability to interpret this extra information, making the world a confusing place. This animation was created for an outreach campaign to recruit children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder to participate in a clinical study. Materials: Polymer clay, cardboard, wood, wire, plastic, and found objects.
