About the Work
Celebrated artist Kadir Nelson commemorates the centennial year of the founding of the Negro Baseball Leagues with his epic masterpiece, “Down the Line,” a heroic original painting imbued with drama and suspense. Nelson celebrates the inaugural seasons of the Negro National Baseball League and the Southern Negro League, both founded in 1920, with a dramatic painting of an historic contest between the Birmingham Black Barons and the Montgomery Greys.
