Pixel Buds were designed around ears, which are not only more unique than fingerprints, but show a huge breadth in variety of sizes and shapes. Designing one system that worked well for a diversity of people and activities was always our goal. We achieved this with balance in the industrial design to be both organic and approachable yet technical and contained; housing a bevy of specialized sensors and acoustic geometry within a low-profile form that fits neatly in the Google Hardware family. Google Pixel Buds are a refreshing, colorful statement to stand out in a crowded market of wireless earbuds because the relationship between the case and the buds was considered from the beginning in a thoughtful way, and details from how the earbuds sit in the case to how they sit in the wearers’ ears were developed in tandem to complement one another enabling a pleasant, tactile design in a pocketable form factor.
