About the Work

Pixel 5 (5G) is the quintessential Google phone with uncompromising premium hardware that delivers Google’s most helpful software and AI-driven experiences at an affordable price.

Building around a simplified metal unibody, we increased display size, fit our largest battery that can last 48 hours with Adaptive Battery Saver, and added 5G antenna technology, all while reducing thickness and overall form. We also took a major step forward by refining the display to feel immersive and balanced through thin, uniform bezels and a single punchhole front camera.

Pixel 5 reflects our “Soft Futures” story, in which our devices merge beautifully into our homes and everyday environments through the careful consideration of design, colors and materials. The enclosure’s organic speckles and subtle textures were inspired by natural materials that have precious, yet approachable qualities, such as stone and ceramics. Combined with the soft unibody geometry, the unique finish creates an emotional response to a highly personal object. Unlike most tech products, we simplify our devices to visually and tactilely reflect a moment of calmness for the user who holds it. As an evolution of Pixel 4, we softened the Iconic square camera detail to look more fluid and evolved the color pop power button by incorporating metallic pops instead. The beautiful contrast between the matte finish of the enclosure and the polished metal of the button and logo creates a striking, almost jewelry-like appearance.
Pixel 5 was also designed with the environment in mind. It’s the first phone to use 100% recycled aluminum and 38% bio-resin on the enclosure to reduce carbon footprint, while smaller components are made from post-consumer recycled plastic.

We remain committed to our Google design principles on Pixel 5, creating differentiation for the brand in a highly saturated and competitive market, while reflecting Google’s values of sustainability and affordable helpfulness.
