For World AIDS Day, the World Health Organization Africa wanted to create a call to action for young women in Sub-Saharan Africa to learn, test, and treat sexually transmitted infections. In collaboration with artist Sonia Pulido, we created #PutYourselfFirst, a social media campaign featuring bold and upbeat illustrations of strong and independent women that put themselves first through education and knowledge. STIs can have a long-term, negative impact on women’s health and their quality of life. The call to action is to be safe by using condoms properly when engaging in any sexual activity. It is the only way to prevent STIs and unwanted pregnancies. Learn about your sexual health and how to prevent STIs. Test regularly to know your STI status. Treat and manage STIs properly. When creating the campaign, we wanted to make sure we use a graphic language that is approachable. By using illustration, bright colors, and a youthful sound we wanted to speak to our audience at eye-level.
