About the Work

Background
The Huaisu Calligraphy Study Association is a grassroots organization in China dedicated to studying, researching, and exploring the famous Tang dynasty calligraphy master, Huaisu. The association hopes to design a series of posters to arouse young people's love for traditional calligraphy culture.

Insight
Huaisu, a monk in the Tang dynasty, was known for his drunken cursive script, which featured calligraphy ‘’ Pen walks dragon and snakes.’’

Execution
From Huaisu's surviving calligraphy works, we selected representative cursive script characters such as "Changsha," "Buddha," and "Journey to the West." By using a three-dimensional approach to create characters with a single stroke, we reinterpreted Huaisu's classic cursive script works. In these three-dimensional Chinese characters, we integrated Huaisu's features, such as the abstract shape of a monk's bald head at the beginning of the stroke and a brush at the end of the stroke. This creates a dynamic and creative blend of Huaisu's image and his cursive script, building a unique charm of wild cursive script.

Result
The series of posters has been released on outdoor light boxes, magazines, and other media.
