About the Work
For the first time in a decade, VIZIO wanted to create a brand campaign to launch their game-changing new OS. So we couldn’t just show people watching TV. We had to create a new world with new characters. Unexpected characters. Ones that are so entranced by a VIZIO TV that they can’t help but watch. So, we went outside the box and to the great outdoors to create two lovable raccoons who peer through a window and imagine what their life would be if they had a VIZIO of their own. Naturally, we started by going down endless Instagram and Google tunnels, studying the behavior and characteristics of real raccoons. Ultimately, we needed to create two different sets of raccoons—one set that felt like real raccoons outside, and another that felt like human/raccoon hybrids. Both sets would need nuanced similarities so that viewers understood they were the same characters. For the shoot, we cast human talent that embodied the motion, twitches, and movement of raccoons. We captured their performances in motion-capture suits on a set that was built entirely from scratch on a soundstage. From these live action references, we built full CG models of our characters. We did round after round after round of look development to get every single raccoon feature just right—down to the perfect glasses that gave our raccoon a sense of style and personality. Since VIZIO is an entertainment company, it was imperative to make the characters and story as filmic and visually stunning as possible with realistic lighting, textures, and fur. We wanted viewers to fall in love with them the second they saw them. And, ultimately, show how VIZIO can change the way you see the world. Even if you’re a couple of raccoons sitting on a windowsill.
