About the Work

My starting point was to imagine if street artists could work on any surface, not restricted by scale, accessibility, safety or rules. I have photographed landscapes that would be amazing for a street artist to paint, but are impossible to paint for real because they're too big, inaccessible or protected.

After photographing these landscapes I have chosen some of my favourite street artists and given them large photographic prints which they have painted as if they were painting on the real location. I then re- shoot each artwork on an easel in its original location, creating the illusion that the artists have painted directly onto ‘impossible’ backgrounds. Locations include the heavily guarded Panthéon in Paris, France; England’s iconic Seven Sisters chalk cliffs; London's National Theatre; an office building in New Jersey and the center strip of a Los Angeles freeway. All done for real, not created in CGI or Photoshop.

I have included a timelapse of one of the pictures for reference, shot while the artist painted live in Paris, France before we rephotographed the painted photographic print. Also included various behind the scenes images to show how the final pictures were created.
