With the goal of expanding cultural narratives through a holistically inclusive approach to storytelling, SHO/MTV Entertainment’s See Me campaign commissioned a series of short films by creatives from underrepresented groups to air across all of our platforms during Heritage Months. We gave creators the funds and the freedom to tell their own stories, while investing in the next generation of storytellers. See Me films have inspired viewers and elevated diverse American experiences through a unique cultural lens. Taking cues from AfriCobra, the Chicago-based Black artist collective formed in 1968, artist/illustrator Andrea Pippins infused patterns, iconography, collage, and color from contemporary Black visual art into a vibrant celebration of Juneteenth, encapsulating the themes: Reflect, Rejoice, Resist. This vibrant and joyful piece was Paramount Global’s lead creative for Juneteenth. The spot ran throughout the entire day across Paramount Global networks and social platforms. A vibrant 20-second animation of Pippins’ illustrations celebrating the spirit, joy and resistance of Juneteenth - a holiday that is still misunderstood by many, our goal was to not only celebrate the liberation of the enslaved, but to create a piece that reinforced Juneteenth as a day to reflect and remember the on-going fight against inequity and injustice.
