PINI illustrates an artistic journey, marking a shift in Matteo Berton's visual language to bold compositions and primary colors. Pines trees, central elements to his grammar, symbolize both aesthetic innovation and personal memories, evoking vivid images of his Tuscan childhood.
Evolving from a stylistic study into a narrative microcosm, the book take us on a silent voyage through landscapes, introspection, and artistic exploration, blending forms, colors, and fragments of humanity.

Created between January and April 2024 by Matteo Berton and Inuit, PINI is a silent artist's book, screen printed with seven colors and binded in the shape of a concertina (leporello) book in three variant covers.

While screen printing is a very time consuming method, it was crucial to capture the flat, vibrant colors and geometric forms that define Matteo Berton's illustrations.

Each part of designing and printing was meticulously researched and tested. A key element was the color research, which spanned over a month. Using Pantone recipes as a starting point, we refined each of the seven final colors by subtly adjusting the pigment ratios.

The serigraphy process, applying colors one by one onto 35 screens (each receiving 200+ squeegee strokes), took over a month and a half. Simultaneously, the book cover was bound. Spine cloths matching the color palette were chosen, the cover was printed and embossed with a magnesium cliché. Finally, the printed sheets were scored, folded, and glued together to create a six-meter concertina (or leporello) book, held closed by hidden magnetic sheets.

In short, a handcrafted work that testifies how the creative part does not end with the drawing, but extends in the printing and binding process demonstrating how drawing and printing intersect inextricably.
