Hakuba Village, Japan — a world-class snow resort welcoming 2.7 million visitors each year. While climate change has drawn attention to declining snowfall, the equally important transformation of the forest ecosystem remains largely overlooked. In collaboration with Hakuba Village, we set out to change that.

Believing that the forest as we see it today will not last forever, we created a gin that serves as a scented medium for recording the forest. Using botanicals foraged in Hakuba's forests, each bottle's label documents the exact collection site with photographs, date, time, GPS coordinates, and weather conditions — allowing you to experience that precise moment in the forest as you drink.

To communicate the realities of climate change, we also crafted a special book-shaped package using timber affected by oak wilt disease. As readers turn pages marked by insect-bored holes, they discover the stories of the botanicals in the gin alongside the changing state of the forest itself.

Visitors from around the world come to Hakuba Village to enjoy its natural beauty, and through HAKUBA GIN, they come to understand its fragility. Developed in partnership with Hakuba Village, a portion of every sale goes toward nature conservation in the village, creating a cycle in which the very tourists who visit help protect the landscape they came to experience. Rather than conveying the effects of climate change through despair, this project aims to cultivate a genuine desire to protect nature — one sip at a time.
