REAL is a contemporary custom display typeface designed as a sculptural tool for cultural communication. The goal was a typeface that does not need “nice setting” to work—its presence is built into the form.
The letters are compact and highly condensed, with carefully drawn curves and stable counters. Because the forms are unusual, craft and control were the core of the project: consistent density, a uniform overall color, clean contours, and a convincing rhythm across alphabet, numerals, and punctuation. REAL holds two demands at once: it remains readable from distance, and up close it behaves like a constructed object.
Its defining quality is physicality. At large scale, the type shifts from reading to perception: letterforms become spatial composition. The type does not sit on the surface; it builds the surface. That makes REAL a display face with a clear signature—distinct without being gimmicky, expressive without relying on illustration. It can function as headline, key visual, and typographic stage in one coherent system.
