Filmmaking has evolved in countless ways, yet film captions haven’t. For 50 years they’ve remained static white terminal font on black and have been merely functional. Deaf and Hard of Hearing audiences rely on those outdated captions that lag dialogue, miss emotional nuance, and fail to identify who’s speaking. There was a glaring need for change.
Caption with Intention transforms captioning with a dynamic, motion-typography driven system that syncs with speech, uses expressive typography to show tone, and color-codes characters for instant recognition.
Caption with Intention was developed closely with the Deaf community over the course of 10 months, testing features via dozens of different stimuli to create a Deaf-community validated design system.
Caption with Intention is an invitation to make cinema more inclusive for the 1.5 billion Deaf and Hard of Hearing people who deserve to experience it fully.
