Lisette Poole is a Cuban American photojournalist, native in both Spanish & English. Born and raised in San Francisco, LIsette is currently in Mexico City, after five years in Havana, Cuba. She is a World Press Photo 6x6 Global Talent for North & Central America and a recipient of the National Geographic Covid Fund for Journalists for her podcast in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, about migrants working as professionals as they wait to enter the US, published with Vice News Reports. Her first book, La paloma y la ley (2019, Red Hook Editions), based on two women's journey through 13 countries from Cuba to the United States, was selected for Time Magazine’s Photobooks of the Year, and a finalist for Pictures of the Year International’s Photobook of the Year category. In 2019, she toured with Pop-Up Magazine presenting a live adaptation of her book for theater audiences across the US. She has been a guest lecturer at the Annenberg Space for Photography, the Gabriel García Márquez (GABO) festival in Colombia, and Internazionale á Ferrara in Italy. She is a fellow of the Carey Institute for Global Good Non-Fiction program and an Adelante Fellow with the International Women’s Media Foundation, who funded her work on human smuggling in Central and South America. Lisette’s work focuses on themes of resilience, and ranges in topics from underground reggaetón parties, to migration through The Darien Gap. Her clients include National Geographic, VICE, Time Magazine, California Sunday Magazine & Airbnb.
