Maithili Shingre is a type designer, calligrapher, lettering artist, and open-type programmer based in Mumbai, India. She completed her graduation from Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Art with a specialization in typography, calligraphy, and lettering. Joining Ek Type in 2013, she dedicated over a decade to the esteemed foundry before transitioning to independent design work. Maithili specializes in Devanagari and Malayalam scripts, but her expertise extends to various other scripts, including Latin, Kannada, Telugu and Gujarati. Apart from her design work, she has mentored interns and designers, conducted workshops on Calligraphy and Type Design, and co-written and presented papers at Typography Day 2016 and 2017. She has also contributed to Aksharaya's Devanagari, Gujarati, Malayalam, and Bangla calligraphy manuals. When not immersed in design work, she enjoys cooking and gardening.
