Miida Chu is a writer-director of trans experience in parallel universes. Her work often uses imaginative thought experiments to challenge assumptions about body and soul. Her short film EUREKA won the prestigious Golden Reel Award at the 38th Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, qualifying the film for consideration for the 2023 Academy Award. Her films have been screened at film festivals all over the world, including HollyShorts Film Festival, AFI Fest, Los Angeles Film Festival, and Camerimage. She served as a juror at the Oscar-qualifying VC Film Fest in 2024. She was a finalist for the Shondaland / SeriesFest Women Directing Mentorship. She was a finalist for the Warner Brothers 100 Short Film Initiative. Her feature script SOUND OF MY DREAMS was a quarterfinalist for the Academy Nicholl Fellowships, a semifinalist for the ScreenCraft Screenwriting Fellowship, and a semifinalist for the Stowe Story Labs / The Black List Artist Development Fellowship. Her feature script OBLIVION was a semifinalist for the 2021 Outfest Screenwriting Lab. Miida holds a BA with high honors in philosophy from New York University and an MFA in directing from the American Film Institute. She was accepted to UCLA’s PhD program in philosophy, but she's glad she didn’t fall into that parallel universe.Miida is also a passionate collaborator of theater. She did media design for Round Room Image’s experimental play “Surrounded”, which toured in Longmont, Chicago, and Winnipeg. She co-founded Lamplighter Productions with Jordan Sucher and developed an original play “How to Be a GoodPerson”, which opened in New York City and toured in Pittsburgh.
