Osborne Macharia is a Photographer, Director, and Designer born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, and is now based in Vancouver, Canada.
As a visual artist, his body of work falls within the genre known as AFROFUTURISM, which he describes as; An artistic expression that challenges the post-colonial African narrative by integrating historical elements, present culture and future aspirations of people of African ancestry. Using Narrative, Fantasy and Fiction to empower the New Africa.
Governed by two key elements; Cultural Identity and Fiction, it creates a powerful platform to convey important messages on topics such as Equality, Inclusion, Representation, Gender Abuse, Ivory Poaching, FGM, Albinism, Dwarfism, Conservation and Care for the Elderly.
Having studied architecture, Osborne brings his love for texture, colour, pattern and symmetry into each creative challenge he undertakes. Some of the brands he's been able to work with including Stephen Curry, Marvel’s Black Panther, Disney, Oprah Winfrey Network’s Queen Sugar, Absolut Vodka, Campari, Coca Cola, Guinness, Mercedes, MTV, VW, Samsung, Danone, Nestle, Cadburys, Forbes, Pepsi, just to name a few.
Some of Osborne's accomplishments include being the first Kenyan ever in 2018 to be appointed as a jury member for the prestigious Cannes Lion Awards (Industry Craft Award) and One Club / ADC Awards. He was a PhotoVogue (2019) Selected Artist, a speaker at the University of Michigan's Penny Stamps Speaker Series (2018) and a speaker at Design Indaba speaker (2017). Osborne was also a finalist in the Hasselblad Masters 2016 competition and was part of the team that won Kenya's first-ever Cannes Lions Award in 2015.
His work was published in Lurzer's Archive 200 Best Digital Artists Worldwide 2015/16 and 2017/18.
