I'm a Creative Director and Designer originally from Limerick, Ireland. My dad is Italian, and my mom's Irish so my name definitely doesn't match my accent. Growing up I spent a lot of time in both Ireland and Italy. This definitely set me up in an environment supportive of travel and an insatiable curiosity.
My background is design, but my career is informed by said curiosity. It's what I lean on to collaborate with my peers, learn new skills, experiment with technology, observe the world around me and more importantly inform my work. I'm more inspired by Solange's 'Seat at the Table' with Carlota Guerrero than the latest link shared out by Adweek.
I'm currently based out of San Francisco, where I work at R/GA as the Creative Director & Lead of our Google account, working in partnership with their Brand Studio team.
For the past ten years I've crafted dynamic design systems and campaigns for beauty, luxury and lifestyle brands at award-winning creative agencies across the globe - spending time in Dublin and Toronto before arriving in the US in 2012.
I joined R/GA's New York office in 2014 as the creative lead on L'Oréal Paris USA, producing work across platform, brand and social campaigns. Last year, I was part of the Ad Council's We Are America campaign, which was something that came out at a very important cultural moment, with a message of unity that is poignantly relevant today. This year I transferred to R/GA's San Francisco office, as Creative Director on Google where my work spans across platform design and campaigns.
Moving to New York was the first time in my career that I met inspiring women who were the top of their game and in leadership positions promoting diversity. Having spent time in work environments where women were not always heard, valued or considered I was incredibly energized to mentor others once I was in a position of power and able to affect change.
At R/GA New York I led a five person all female creative team, in San Francisco I now lead a team of 12, we're tasked with producing meaningful and impactful work for Google, one of the most important and influential companies in the world - a challenge I don't take lightly.
I'm an active participant in R/GA's mentorship program, which involves one-on-one career mentorship across disciplines and backgrounds. I'm an involved manager because as a junior I never really had one myself. And I believe true leadership is built on a system of respect and trust, that means a zero bullshit approach to talking about and problem solving the frustrations we all face everyday. I've seen my some of my junior team grow into senior positions and become confident and opinionated leaders in their own right over the past few years.
This past year I completed guest lecturing spots in Ireland and New York, presenting to Cork Institute of Technology's design program and working with 1st year students on a creative brief that went toward their final year credits. I also spent four weeks working with an all-female study group within SVA's interaction design program.
I'm a sustaining member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), the Art Directors Club (ACD) and a member of the 100 Archive, a community-centered initiative to document and record the best of both the past and future of visual communication design in Ireland.
I also work as a creative consultant for Ladies Get Paid, the trending women's organization committed to helping women rise up at work with over 3,000 members worldwide. I've led the definition of the brand, expanded on the visual identity through tangible assets and restructured the brand's Newsletter. In addition I was part of a panel of speakers for the Ladies Get Paid Town Hall on the topic of reinvention.
My leadership style and philosophy always comes back to my motivation from the beginning: stay curious. It's what has helped me become confident in my opinions, lead and be humble.
