Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co.,Ltd is steadfastly embarking on various initiatives to realize a circular society. In 2022, as one of our efforts, we initiated the sale of returnable bottles. This endeavor aims to encourage the recycling of glass containers, minimize waste, and restrict the use of plastics. To spark interest in the theme of sustainability among a wider audience, we produced a cut-out animation depicting a fantastical adventure featuring a character that personifies a returnable bottle, and a young boy as the protagonist. Through this narrative, we hope to garner interest and awareness about sustainability across diverse generations. We took a leap into the realm of new expressions through cut-out animation. The artistic process involved manipulating images captured through a camera, creating parts by enlarging and reducing them using a printer, projecting light onto the cut-outs with a projector, and generating a surreal three-dimensional sensation using glass plates to cast shadows. Moreover, we intensified the sense of astonishment and emotional resonance in a reunion scene between the two characters, integrating dynamic camera movements and a visual representation reminiscent of a fisheye lens. On average, one second of animation was crafted each day, with even twenty days at times being spent on a mere seven-second scene. Through around four and a half months of committed work, we finally brought to life a roughly two and a half-minute story. Embodied as a representation of our aspiration towards achieving a circular society, the narrative has been structured to facilitate loop playback, enabling viewers to perpetually immerse themselves in our conceptualized future.
