BlockFace is a 24-piece rubber stamp typography kit based on an open-ended modular system. The kit offers type and printmaking enthusiasts of all abilities the opportunity to experiment with printing typographic pieces and creating letterforms. BlockFace began as a personal project (under the original name AlphaSet) and was developed over several years before the final set was released as a Kickstarter in 2023. During the Covid-19 lockdowns, an early iteration of the kit was used as a basis for a series of online briefs with a focus on community and togetherness with submissions received from users around the world. These collaborative exercises helped shape the design and purpose of the set and BlockFace is now run as an open-source project meaning institutions or individuals with access to laser-cutting or 3D printing facilities can produce sets for free for personal or educational use.
