About the Work

An interactive music video that gives fans unprecedented control of the music—mix different versions of the song and turn band members on and off in real-time. Shot by Tool Director, Sam Jones, it blends a video experience with interactive features to give the feeling of what it’s like to be in the recording studio. Utilizing innovative video streaming and compression approaches, our development team created a pseudo-streaming solution that allows 4 streaming videos to be synced and mixable in real time. Additional features of the site include a graphic, data visualization of fan re-mixes, social media sharing via Twitter, MySpace, Bebo and a Facebook App that streams exclusive versions of the remixes. It was a groundbreaking creative/technological challenge that was fun to work on and also very well received by music fans. But quite possibly our biggest accomplishment? Kanye West featured it on his blog, saying “It’s the coolest thing I’ve seen in a really long time.” Thx Kanye.
