About the Work

Brand History

Being part of a revitalization project of the city of Montreal, 2 property promoters, one specializing in residential and the other commercial decided to unite their expertise in order to create a property development project to scale that would have multiple uses within the Griffintown quarter.

The Mandate

The area has a rich industrial history and its residents are well aware of this precarious richness. To demonstrate their good will in respecting the nature of this project, the promoters wanted to communicate an image that was all encompassing to its residents and its environment with a strong vision towards the future. The goal of this endeavor is to create a sense of belonging to those within its community amongst its future residents, employees and entrepreneurs.

The Solution

The brand image for the District Griffin project was directly inspired by the historical richness of its location. In the XIX century, Griffintown saw the birth of its working class quarter brought by Irish immigrants whose specialty was foundry work and would eventually play a key role in building a modern Montreal, as we know it today.

The pattern of the embossing on the various pieces serves as a reminder of the foundry works dating back to the last century. As well, the cutouts on the brochure allow you a glimpse of a luminous color that serves to reflect our city lights, most notably the Five Roses mill situated on the other side of the Peel Basin. The Griffin District signature was developed intentionally with a metallic finish in order to represent the architecture running alongside the railway of that particular site. The creation of the District Griffin signature and the crafted iron sign presented at the Discovery Center have been inspired by the spirit of the brand image. It represents and is a reminiscent of the architecture that runs alongside the railway of that particular site.

The Discovery Center, permits an immersion into the complete project and of its surrounding neighborhood.
