About the Work

It's illegal to march for LGBTQ rights in Russia. So we turned NYC Pride, the most historic gay rights march in America, into a virtual march through the Google Street View of Moscow itself.

As we marched in NYC pride, we used a custom-built private app to geolocate our progress and live-stream exactly where we would be in Russia along a route of equal length and step.

People could join by using #virtualpride, which would make them appear on our side-lines as virtual spectators as we made our way towards Red Square.

With visits from 94 countries, more than 100 geolocations per second, over 5 million Twitter impressions, and coverage from across the globe, the Pride March in New York became a march for Moscow, and gay rights all over the world.
