Digitalisation is the megatrend in the auto industry and elsewhere. The tasks of a new presentation technology involved showing how automobiles go online in data space, detect their surroundings in sensor fields and adapt aerodynamically to the airstream – all live on stage. To make invisible vehicle features visible, elements such as data networks and sensor fields are added to the live spidercam footage in the form of AR layers. This involved a stable tracking system that was developed specially for the Mercedes presentation, and used here for the first time. Without it, visitors could not have experienced live activities and their digital extensions simultaneously. The spidercam offers a wide range of options for communication and interactivity. It moves freely across the whole stage to capture the live activity and audience in dynamic pictures shot from unusual angles. AR layers add product worlds, vehicle information and interactivity instructions.
