About the Work
Less than 1% of girls express interest in majoring in Computer Science. Yet tech is growing faster than any other industry. So Google created Made with Code — an initiative to inspire girls to try coding. We partnered with designer Zac Posen and technologist Maddy Maxey to create the LED Dress — a gorgeous designer dress embedded with over 200 LED lights. The LEDs on the dress were controlled by girls, through an introductory coding project on Made with Code's site. There, they could create different patterns, colors, and designs that would come to life on the LED Dress. The LED Dress made its debut during New York Fashion Week at Zac Posen's runway show, worn by supermodel Coco Rocha. Afterwards, the LED Dress went to the red carpet as Lupita Nyong'o donned it for the Star Wars premiere and a Daily Show appearance.
