About the Work
In Ecuador there is only one voice allowed to speak publically - President Rafael "Mashi" Correa. His “Communication Law” clamps the opinions of journalists who oppose the government. Three journalists who were forced out of their jobs because of their opinions formed the online journal 4pelagatos, An independent media outlet which points out the humor in dubious government actions. They hired us to come up with an idea that would give Ecuadorians the opportunity to express public opinions. We created an on-demand online platform to create videos using the words and footage from "Mashi" Correa's public speeches. We gave Ecuadorians a tool where they could create and share anything they wanted by mashing-up the President's own words. If the only voice allowed to speak is his, now this platform lets everybody express freely with it.
