About the Work
The Institute Presents: Neurosociety translates neuroscientific experiments into an immersive, participatory theatrical performance for a wide public. Unified Field collaborated closely with David Byrne, Mala Gaonkar and the Todomundo! team to create technology that enables intensive audience participation in neuroscientific experiments and performance. The programs and systems we designed and built minimize technology’s presence and yield a magical theatrical experience. Unified Field focused on Acts I and II. Act I playfully demonstrating how our biases affect our moral behavior. Act II reveals how our preconceived ideas impact our decisions. Participants’ responses are immediately registered and reflected back to the group, sparking engaging discussions. Participants also see how their responses measure up against all answers logged over time. For Act III, Yannick Leblanc developed a virtual reality experience—based on a neuroscientific experiment—that tricks participants’ brains into experiencing the point of view of a 12 inch tall doll.
