About the Work
On site at the 2017 Super Bowl, Verizon unveiled Virtual Gridiron, the first-ever virtual reality sports game that let fans play head-to-head against an opponent in real time. Virtual Gridiron put players in control of defense or offense for three downs, facing off against another fan live in real time. After choosing a play, they experienced the action in 360 degrees from the first-person perspective of the players on the field. It was an inside view of NFL action that only players had seen until now, delivering an immersive, powerful connection to the game. We even let a handful of fans go up against real NFL stars. The activation was a new and unexpected way to show how Verizon uses technology to connect customers to the things they love.
