About the Work
Into the Wild is a 10,000 square feet AR adventure that transforms Singapore’s ArtScienceMuseum into a virtual rainforest. The aim is to use the power of AR to help people in Singapore experience first-hand the devastating effects of deforestation and learn more about some of the region’s most endangered species. Combining Tango and AR technologies, the experience educates visitors about the effects of deforestation by physically exploring the virtual exhibition. Using computer vision, the app tracks motion and understands depth and distance travelled inside the museum-turned-rainforest. The virtual rainforest is inhabited by endangered animals that people can interact with to learn about the threats imposed by human impact. And at the end of it all, Into the Wild becomes a reality when a virtual tree that people can plant as a symbolic act becomes a real tree donated to the Rimbang Baling rainforest via the project’s sponsors.
